discount that they can then offer you costing less than half

So lets look at some of the places that you
could go to find great discounts if you wanted to get the
best price on say, a mid-size rental car. Orbitz, might be
a good site. They offer a competitive rate plus easy to read
search results. If you find a great rate, look no further,
if not just continue your search.
National Chains in the Brick and Mortar World
You may want to check the websites of the
major national chains mostly if it is a last minute rental
that you are seeking. All the majors have Web specials posted
that can save you a lot of money.
