Checking Driving Records
In order to ensure the safety
of the vehicle, rental car companies check the driving records
of all individuals that are renting a vehicle. Before they
will rent a vehicle and arrive to pick it up, the renter and
all other authorized drivers will be subject to a driving
record and license check with the Department of Motor Vehicles.
If the driving record fails to meet their criteria, they have
the right to deny the rental.
The rental car company makes
sure that the license is valid and is not currently suspended,
revoked or expired. Anyone who has more than 8 points over
the last two years on their driving record will not be allowed
to rent a vehicle as well as anyone who over the last 3 years
has pled guilty or paid a fine or convicted of three or more
moving violations or two or more accidents.
When You Will Not be Able to Rent a Car
Additionally, renters will
be denied that have over the last 4 years pled guilty or paid
a fine or been convicted for a reckless driving violation,
or an accident with a fatality or bodily injury, operating
a vehicle without a license or without insurance, possession
of a stolen vehicle or one used in a crime and anyone who
has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident. Drivers
with a record of a DWI, DWAI, or DUI will also be denied.
You will want to make
certain that you will not be denied car rental privileges
before you begin your trip. You do not want to find out too
late that you will not be able to obtain a rental car.
