Car Rental Online Deal Finders: Expedia.com

Expedia.com is a travel agency based in Bellevue, Washington, and is an internet site for booking travel arrangements. Although originally a division of Microsoft, it was purchased in 2001 by USA Networks (now InterActiveCorp). InterActiveCorp has expanded Expedia to include corporate travel specialties, trip advising, classic vacation bookings. Hotwire.com, a similar website, is also part of the travel business holdings of IAC.

Although Expedia has come under some fire for various customer service issues in the past, the company was given the Webby Award in 2006 as on of the “Best in Travel Webistes” and the American Business Association’s Stevie Award for “Most Innovative Company.”

What You Will Find at Expedia.com

As with many of the travel websites, Expedia’s home page is a collection of tabs that lead you to the various products, including airline flights, hotels, cruises, destinations, and car rentals. The website also sports a tab for maps and another for activities, where you can go to find more fun things to do while on vacation and where they are located.

Also on the home page is a link to Expedia’s Best Price Guarantee. This guarantee states that if you find a better price within 24 hours of their quote to you, they will refund the difference and give you a $50 travel coupon to boot. This offer applies to vacations, flights, hotels, cruises, activities, and car rentals (although there are restrictions).

The car rental tab not only offers you the usual selections of type of car, duration of the trip, and destination, but also offers several articles on saving money on your car rental. There are also links to Condé Nast Traveler articles written to help you save money as well. In those articles are lists of coupons and discounts for your car rental needs.

You also have the option of combining what you would like to book through Expedia.com. You can book only one of the areas, or pair them, or use all together for the best possible deals. For instance, if you are going to visit a relative, you may already have transportation and a place to stay, and you would book only a flight from the company. However, if you are going to a family tourist destination, you may want to book your flight, reserve the rental car, book your hotel accommodations, and make your plans to visit the attractions all on the Expedia.com website.

Expedia.com also has a page where you can explore the most popular destinations and see what kinds of package deals are currently being offered. There is also a link to a page that helps you plan your activities, as well as another that helps you find the particular kind of travel you are looking for (such as romantic, beach, skiing, luxury, etc.). You can even get passes to many attractions through Expedia, including ski lift tickets.
