International Car Rental
Insurance Pointers: Insurance Issues
Introduction
As you go about looking
for international car rental insurance options, you will want
to make certain that you’ve at least a basis understanding
of the extent and nature of car rental insurance that you
will be able to obtain when you are dealing with car rental
in a foreign nation.
Through this article, you
are provided with an overview of some of the more important
issues relating to international car rental insurance. Specifically,
you will be provided with an overview of why it may be nearly
impossible to obtain international car rental insurance that
does not include provisions for a collision damage waiver
or a loss damage waiver (which will be referred to jointly
throughout this informational article as CDW/LDW.
Understanding CDW/LDW: A Brief Overview
In simple terms, CDW/LDW
refers to a type of exclusion that very commonly is in place
when it comes to international car rental insurance policies.
(Indeed, in this day and age, CDW/LDW is becoming more and
more common in domestic car rental insurance policies as well.)
The CDW/LDW essentially
precludes you from having coverage for damage as the result
of the accident to the rental car itself and property that
you may have in the rental car. The car rental insurance will
provide coverage of some nature for you in the event that
you cause damage to another person’s auto or property (or
person, for that matter). But, the CDW/LDW provides that there
will be no coverage extended to you in regard to damage to
the rental car itself. As a result, you will need to turn
to another source of protection in regard to accidental damage
to the rental car itself -- perhaps your own individual policy
of car insurance if it in fact provides international car
rental coverage to you. |
