The Driver’s Spouse and Other Exemptions
Drivers that are exempt from the additional drivers fee
are the renter’s spouse. In order to qualify for this exemption
the renter will need to state at the time of the rental
that the other driver is his or her spouse, mate, significant
other or domestic life partner. No matter what category
they choose, the additional driver will be treated as a
spouse.
Other exemptions from the additional drivers fee are employers,
employees or co-workers of renters that have corporate accounts
and are conducting business activity.
Renters that are non-licensed with a disability that requires
a licensed companion driver are also exempt but will need
to complete an additional form.
Insurance replacement or service replacement renters can
normally add their spouse or significant other, a family
member that is on their insurance currently and for company
vehicle replacement rentals, individuals can add another
company employee or co-worker.
Age Requirements and Car Rental Insurance
Some of the major insurance companies like State Farm,
American Family, Travelers, Allstate and a few others have
an age requirement of at least 18 years of age to be added
to the policy if the driver is a spouse or significant other,
family member on their insurance policy, and company employees
or co-workers with a corporate rental.
